Římský will remain in custody, as the court at first instance did not grant his conditional release.
© AKTU.cz, Jiří Forman Vlastislav Římský, who is serving his sentence in prison for a tax offense related to the illicit production of non-rolled cigarettes, will remain incarcerated. His request for conditional release after serving one-third of his sentence was rejected by the Prague 6 court. Římský failed to convince both the judge and the prosecutor that he had reformed while in prison. He was the mastermind behind a series of frauds as well as the illicit production of non-rolled cigarettes. His partner, meanwhile, was sentenced on Tuesday by the Prague 2 court for obstructing justice.
Vlastislav Římský is a notorious and controversial entrepreneur who defrauded several investors through his development projects. And it is precisely his development projects that now pose a major problem, potentially adding more years to his prison sentence.
At his parole hearing, neither the prison director's appeal nor his participation in a Polish prison ceramics competition with his ceramic product helped his case. It also did nothing for him that he had informed police about his accomplices' crimes in other cases. Neither the judge nor the prosecutor believed that Římský had reformed during his time in jail. Furthermore, Římský was technically ineligible to apply for release at one-third of his sentence, as he had been previously convicted and therefore could not request release on that basis.
His mistress, Nina Rydlová, was non-finally convicted this Tuesday for obstructing justice. The witnesses who testified in Nina Rydlová's favor were even labeled as “perjurers” by the prosecutor, who made it clear that a criminal complaint for perjury would be filed.
Conversely, witnesses deemed credible by the court testified that all of the suspiciously obtained assets belonging to Rydlová are held by the Italian company Axel Holding. It is this very property that Rydlová is alleged to have tried to protect from enforcement proceedings against her using fraudulent evidence.
The business dealings of Římský and Rydlová were also featured in the AKTU news series “Frauds Like in the Nineties.”
