Římský will continue to serve time, as the trial court did not grant his conditional release, and Rydlová has been convicted.
© AKTU.cz, Jiří Forman Vlastislav Římský, who is serving his prison sentence for a tax offense related to the illegal production of unfiltered cigarettes, will remain incarcerated. His conditional release after one-third of his sentence was denied by the Prague 6 court. Římský did not convince either the judge or the prosecutor that he had reformed during his time in jail. He was behind a series of fraud schemes as well as the organizer of the production of unfiltered cigarettes. His partner, meanwhile, was convicted on Tuesday by the Prague 2 court for obstructing justice.
Vlastislav Římský is a notorious and controversial businessman who has swindled more than one investor through his development projects. In fact, these projects could land him several more years behind bars.
At the parole hearing, neither the prison director’s plea nor the fact that Římský participated in a ceramics competition among Polish prisons with his ceramic creation helped his case. It also did nothing that he had informed police about his accomplices’ crimes in other cases. Neither the judge nor the prosecutor believed that Římský had reformed in prison. Moreover, he was not even de facto eligible to request early release after serving one third of his sentence, as he had been previously convicted and was thus ineligible for such a release.
His mistress, Nina Rydlova, was non-finally convicted on Tuesday for obstructing justice. The prosecutor even labeled the witnesses who testified in her favor as “perjurers” and made it clear that a criminal complaint for false testimony would be filed.
Conversely, witnesses deemed credible by the court testified, among other things, that all of the doubtfully acquired assets belonging to Rydlova are held by the Italian company Axel Holding. It is precisely this property that Rydlova is allegedly trying to shield from enforcement proceedings through fraudulent evidence.
The business dealings of Římský and Rydlova were also featured in the AKTU news series “Frauds Like the Nineties”.
