The mayor of Řeporyje must go to jail. He was storing marijuana and pervitin.
© Pavel Novotný, AKTU.cz "The court warned the convicted man against repeating his misdemeanors, but that didn’t deter him," she noted. According to her, the politician has 17 offenses on record in total, with seven committed after his probation period was extended by the court. These included the use of insulting language—which the court refused to repeat—as well as possession of marijuana and pervitin, and an entry noting "immeasurable alcohol" on his driving record.
This statement was delivered by the District Court for Prague 5. The verdict was uncompromising, and the mayor of Řeporyje is to serve three months in prison.
Although Novotný filed an appeal against the verdict—which has a suspensive effect—it is very likely that he will begin serving his sentence. He failed to meet the conditions, after all.
"The Court concluded that the condition of leading a respectable life during the probation period was not met," stated Judge Monika Hrmová of the Prague 5 District Court.
Pavel Novotný further breached the condition and repeatedly committed offenses in addition to possessing hard drugs, specifically methamphetamine.
Due to drugs, the police even intervened at his office in the Řeporyje district in August last year. Novotný commented on the matter at the time as follows:
Novotný himself gave his own take on the verdict.
On the social network X, he stated: "Every respectable president has served time!"
Novotný appeared in court for the last time at the end of April. At that time, the Court of Appeals ruled that he must apologize to Tomio Okamura, the leader of the SPD movement, and pay him 40,000 crowns for the vulgarities he uttered on TikTok.
Last year, following a court verdict, Novotný apologized to ex-president Miloš Zeman, whom he had bombarded with vulgarities on social media and even wished dead.
The ODS home party is also awaiting a final decision regarding Novotný. Once the ruling becomes legally binding, they will decide whether to expel him from their ranks.
