Římský will continue to serve his sentence, Rydlová is convicted
© AKTU.cz, Jiří Forman Vlastislav Římský, who is serving his sentence in prison for a tax offense committed during the illegal production of roll-your-own cigarettes, will remain behind bars. His request for conditional release after serving one-third of his sentence was rejected by the Prague 6 court. Římský failed to convince both the judge and the public prosecutor that he had reformed during his time in prison. He was responsible for organizing a number of frauds as well as the production of roll-your-own cigarettes. His partner was, in turn, convicted on Tuesday by the Prague 2 court for obstructing justice.
Vlastislav Římský is a notorious controversial businessman who defrauded many investors through his development projects. It is precisely these projects that now pose a serious problem which could add more years to his prison sentence.
At the conditional release hearing, neither the prison director’s plea nor the fact that Římský had taken part in a ceramics contest for prisons in Poland with his ceramic creation helped his case. It also did not help that he had informed the police about his accomplices’ criminal offenses in other cases. Neither the judge nor the prosecutor believed that Římský had reformed during his time in prison. Moreover, due to his past convictions, he was not eligible to request a release after serving one-third of his sentence.
His mistress, Nina Rydlová, was non-finally convicted this Tuesday of obstructing justice. The witnesses who testified on her behalf were even labeled as “perjurers” by the prosecutor, who clearly indicated that a criminal complaint would be filed for perjury and false testimony.
In contrast, witnesses deemed credible by the court testified, among other things, that all the suspiciously acquired assets attributed to Rydlová are held by the Italian company Axel Holding. It is precisely these assets that Rydlová is expected to protect from the enforcement action being taken against her using fraudulent evidence.
The business dealings of both Římský and Rydlová were also featured in the AKTU news series "Frauds Like It’s the ’90s."
