II. Episode of the mini-series "Corruption at the End of the World" – Poisonous Impudence
© AKTU.cz Section 2 discusses the construction of the Freestyle Park in Boží Dar, which is located on municipal land and is being leased by the city, led by Mayor Horník, to the Club of the Krušné Mountains. Despite a clause in the contract stating that the land must not be further rented out, this is occurring. The tenant is Anton Jurica, a friend of Mayor Horník. Furthermore, as our editorial team discovered, toxic waste and extracted peat from a protected area were dumped into the mounds during the construction of the Freestyle Park.
The mayor Horník denies any conflict of interest with the local developer Anton Jurica, even though he lives in Jurica’s house. The city rents out land to Jurica either for free or for a pittance, on which he earns millions. And all of this is done with the approval of the council, where Horník behaves in a self-centered, almost Napoleon-like manner and like a general.
Far worse than the conflict of interest between Horník and Jurica are Horník’s ties and actions, which the town of Boží Dar overlooks. For instance, there’s the dumping of waste into mounds during the creation of the Freestyle Park. The waste shown in the photos acquired by AKTU.cz clearly suggests that even Boží Dar’s drinking water source could have been contaminated.
