Police apprehended two suspects at the Faculty of Philosophy. They were acting strangely.
© AKTU.cz, Lukáš Dvořák, Lucie Dvořáková Two suspicious individuals prompted police patrols at the Faculty of Philosophy this afternoon. According to AKTU.cz, they were acting strangely and reportedly approved an attack on the Faculty of Philosophy back in December 2023, when a shooter killed 14 people.
Although the police assessed the situation as not posing an immediate danger, online sources revealed that two individuals roaming the faculty grounds were supportive of the shooter’s attack and were behaving oddly.
A larger contingent of police patrols arrived at the scene, secured both individuals, and took them to the station.
The shooting at the Faculty of Philosophy on December 21 was the most tragic event in the history of the Czech Republic. The shooter, a student of the faculty, killed 14 people and then, after a police officer fired at him, committed suicide.
The incident also involved a reporter from AKTU.cz, who tried to lure the shooter’s fire onto himself while the shooter targeted people fleeing the faculty. Reporter Jiří Forman stepped out from behind cover and shouted at the shooter to fire in his direction. The shooter indeed began shooting at the reporter, and by diverting his attention, many evacuees were able to reach safety.
The police leadership is now facing severe criticism for mismanaging the overall command of the operation and for the poor performance of the police, particularly during the early phase before the attack. According to available information, investigators already knew the identity of the shooter and had several clear indications that he might also be the perpetrator in Klánovice, where he shot a man and a child in a stroller. This was later confirmed.
