A tragic accident involving two trucks paralyzed traffic on the R7 road before the exit to Slaný
© AKTU.cz, Jiří Forman A serious traffic accident involving two trucks struck the R7 near Slaný on Monday, October 20. The collision occurred shortly after 1 p.m. in a section where traffic is funneled into a narrowed lane due to construction work.
According to police spokeswoman Barbora Schneeweissová, one of the drivers drove his truck into the oncoming lane, where it collided head-on with another passing truck. Both vehicles were left smashed after the impact and the drivers were trapped in their cabins.
All units of the integrated rescue system responded, including the air rescue service from Prague. Firefighters had to use hydraulic tools to free the injured. "Unfortunately, one patient succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Two other men, who were conscious, sustained moderate-to-severe injuries," said Monika Nováková, spokeswoman for the Central Bohemian ambulance service.
Road I/7 was completely closed in both directions for several hours after the crash; traffic was diverted along detour routes via Slaný and Tuchlovice. An investigation into the causes of the tragic accident is underway at the scene, involving the traffic police and criminal investigators from Kladno.
According to initial information, one possible cause of the crash may have been driver inattention at a narrowing where traffic from both directions merges into a single lane.
