Police in Ostrava prevented a clash between soccer hooligans.

The clash was reportedly set to take place near or even inside the Bělský Forest. The police had ample advance information and thus managed to prevent the altercation in time. According to available reports, several clubs affiliated with both teams playing today’s match were present on the scene. Other fans expected to be involved belonged to clubs such as GSK Katovice, Row Rybnik, Zagłębie Sosnowiec, and Radomiak Radom.

The police intervention took place at the Dakota Restaurant near the Bělský Forest, where fans of Baník and GSK Katovice had gathered. The officers checked them, and those without proper identification were taken to the station for verification. Afterwards, they patrolled the streets to maintain public order and ensure that no one was at risk of injury or danger. According to our sources, the operation involved both the riot unit from the Moravian-Silesian Region and the Special Police Units from the Moravian-Silesian and South Moravian Regions. In a statement, police spokesperson Eva Michalíková remarked that the planned clash between football hooligans was successfully thwarted.

"We can confirm that, most likely thanks to the timely intervention of the police, we prevented the planned confrontation between fans."

Heightened security measures are also being implemented in connection with today's football match.
