Frost surprised the Czech Republic. At Rokytské slati, temperatures reached -10 °C
© AKTU.cz Today's freezing weather hit the Czech Republic with full force – temperatures fell below freezing and the mercury in thermometers remains well below zero. The cold has spread across the landscape and with it came sudden changes in transportation and people's daily routines.
„Temperatures across much of the country fell below zero today. At 17 stations with at least 30 years of measurements the lowest temperature for this date on record was recorded, and at some stations measurements go back more than 50 years,“ the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) reported.
According to meteorologists it was coldest at Rokytská slať, where they measured a full -10 °C. Close behind are the Horská Kvilda station with -9.6 °C and Pohoří na Šumavě with -9 °C. Thirty-year records fell, for example, at the Černá v Pošumaví station (-7.1 °C), Nový Rychnov (-4.8 °C) and Ústí nad Orlicí (-4.6 °C).
